Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells
Simple Explanation
Every cell is either prokaryotic or eukaryotic. Prokaryotic cells (like bacteria) are small and simple, with no nucleus β their genetic material floats freely in the cytoplasm. Eukaryotic cells (like animal, plant, and fungal cells) are larger and more complex, with a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.
Why Do We Need It?
This single distinction splits all of life into two fundamentally different kinds of cell organization, and explains why bacteria behave so differently from the cells in your own body.
